So what is the buzz about Internet Phones? First it was Bell’s harmonic telegraphy which eventually led to land line phones, then car phones, then the stormy advent of mobile phones, and now the world is moving towards calling facilities based on the internet. They are not all that complicated to understand and use. In fact, once you get the hang of what they’re all about, they might just become your preferred means of communication.

An Internet Phone uses the technology of VOIP: Voice Over Internet Protocol for transmitting voice signals. VOIP can be used PC-to-Phone (or vice versa) or Phone- to- Phone. Internet Phones digitise your voice and send it over the internet to another phone or a computer through an adapter. Many companies have quickly realized the advantages of this system and have started offering various plans for residential usage as well as business communications.

One among its many advantages is that it offers highly advanced features compared to regular phones, proving useful for both home and corporate use. Caller ID and 3-way Conferencing facilities have become a thing of the past; now you can look forward to Call Recording (for saving sweet memories, reference or proof), Do Not Disturb facility (which forwards your calls directly to Voicemail if you so wish) and Voicemail access over the web- anywhere, anytime. For corporate plans, some services offer the IVR system- or Interactive Voice Response system- which puts large volume of calls in auto queue mode by giving pre-recorded options like “Press 1 for Features, Press 2 for Rates”. In fact, such corporate plans can even replace that very expensive PBX system.

Along with these smart features, the internet-facilitated phones come with much cheaper plan options. VOIP technology has been primarily responsible for the drastic and recent drop in international calling rates. Residential local plans may come as cheap as 5 pounds a month and international calling plans as low as 10 pounds a month! Considering the amount of phone bills you can save, especially if you have family living in other countries or many of your clients are based overseas, the new rage of Internet Phones is a rather tempting.

We are witnessing several marvels in today’s electronic world – particularly in the field of communications. High-speed broadband services and technological advancements in voice and data compression are making conversations possible without a telephone network while reducing communications costs.

It is a fact that large organizations have increasingly started using VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) for their phone needs. Individuals, home offices and small businesses are using a combination of landlines and cell phones for business communications. For home offices and small offices, there are today quite a few options when it comes to setting up business communications facilities.

Landline replacement services are offered by several local broadband providers. They either replace or bypass the exterior connection from the phone company. You continue to use the existing phones, and there is also no change in phone number. As a matter of fact, you are not even required to be a broadband subscriber. All that is needed is you should be within the broadband service area of your service provider.

VoIP services are indeed attractive as compared with traditional landline service as you can enjoy unlimited calling facility for a fixed monthly fee – apart from enjoying several features like voice mail, call waiting, caller ID etc. One serious limitation is broadband phone service will fail during a power outage unless you as well as your broadband provider have a working battery backup.

Vonage V-Phone offers direct landline replacement and there is no need for a computer. The device is called a V-Phone, which is a flash drive with a headset jack and plugs into a Windows XP computer. The V-Phone has limitations as it only works with wired headsets and with PCs and does not fully support Windows Vista.

MagicJack is a competitor to V-Phone. Like the V-Phone, Magic Jack plugs into the computer’s USB port but has a phone jack at the other end so a regular telephone can be used. Service plans include an incoming phone number, and unrestricted outgoing calls to the U.S., Canada and other MagicJack users. Many standard features such as caller ID, call waiting and call forwarding are included. MagicJack has the same drawbacks as V-Phone as it requires the computer switched on. MagicJack runs on Windows XP, Vista and Macs.

T-Mobile, a mobile phone service, offers two VoIP services to subscribers. T-Mobile @Home is a landline replacement service. It also requires an existing broadband Internet connection, and a special router purchased through T-Mobile. The @Home service has features like call waiting, caller ID, call forwarding, three-way calling and voice mail.

T-Mobile also offers subscribers a HotSpot service for cell phones. This service allows your cell phone to place and receive calls over a Wi-Fi connection. Calls made or received through a Wi-Fi connection are free and are not subject to deduction from your monthly allotment of minutes.

Skype is universally popular. Skype enables making and receiving calls using the computer. Skype can work with a dial-up Internet connection instead of broadband. Skype requires a computer for setup and usage, although special handsets allow Skype calling over most Wi-Fi connections. You can install Skype on your computer, plug in a headset with microphone, and talk with other Skype users anywhere in the world while connected to the Internet. If you have a webcam, you can also indulge in a videochat.

The Internet Phone Service that is best suited for you depends on your specific requirements. If you want total reliability for calls and consider 911 important, traditional landlines are still best. If you want simplicity with savings, then look at landline replacement services. If you are a frequent traveler or make many international calls, consider Skype, MagicJack and Vonage V-Phone.

Cell Phone Forensics – A Brief Introduction

Cell Phone Forensics or Mobile Phone Forensics are improving daily. These services are now commercially available through certain specialist companies, (Disklabs, ( http://www.mobilephoneforensics.com), Disklabs, (http://www.disklabs.com), and ICG Inc, (http://www.icginc.com)), and is no longer reserved for the most high profile murder enquiries, but by individuals checking to see if their partner or lover has been cheating on them, by Human Resources, who need to prove if “that” phone call was actually taken, or by Private Investigators who are checking to see if the client was where they say they were at a given specific time. Above are of course, just a few of the hundreds of examples of why cell phone forensics are becoming more and more important in the lives of the military, investigative agencies, (police forces, security agencies, private investigators), human resources and indeed private individuals.

These days, along with the computer, cell phone forensics is the police officers first point of call. Where are you likely to record everything? Where are the records of wrong doings going to be stored? Even if you are not the sort of person to record wrong doings, human nature states that you will tell at least someone. On a computer, they could be stored within your PST file,(Microsoft Outlook personal storage file), your EDB file, (Microsoft Exchange storage file), your NSS, (Lotus Notes), your MSG, (Microsoft Outlook Express), and your EML, (generic email files), amongst others. All these records are kept digitally on various storage devices, be they mobile phone SIM cards, perhaps mobile phone 3G USIM cards, the generic mobile phone memory or internal memory cards; mainly MMC memory cards, but not exclusively. Nowadays, the forensic investigator does not have to solely rely on his mobile phone investigative resources, but has to have a sound knowledge of evidence handling, write-blocking and general computer forensics, to ensure that a full examination of all available data has been achieved for the client in a sound and forensically correct manner.

A more recent development in this technology is the cellular transmitter location, which is used to assist agencies in pinpointing the approximate whereabouts of the investigated. This sort of investigation technique was first used in a very high profile case in the United Kingdom, namely the murder of two young girls in a town called Soham called Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells, (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/2201146.stm). This technology is relatively new and although proved in a British court of law, does not necessarily mean that it is accepted throughout the world. There are of course downsides to this technology. Simply by passing the mobile phone in question to a colleague or accomplice with a disregard for the law would mean that the phone in question would be in another place at the time of a phone call, and therefore not be at the scene of the crime in question. There is also the problem with ‘Pay-As-You-Go’ type of phones, which have no legal tie to the owner. This is something which is still to be addressed.

Is it just me or is this new Google ‘Android’ phone business a little questionable? I mean seriously, a Google phone, why? Aren’t they just a search engine. Your probably asking yourself about the iphone and how that has a similar sort of background but you would be wrong. Apple are hardware experts, they make walkman’s (ipods), desktop computers, laptop computers, phones and much more. So what could Google possibly bring to the table that would beat the brand new iphone 3G? Because personally I don’t see how they can possibly offer anything that the iphone cant.

I seem to get the impression that Google are getting a tiny bit ahead of themselves. They appear to think that their reputation precedes them and that everyone will jump to buy this new phone. I don’t think this will be the case. Firstly, have you seen it? Visually it’s really not all that. The design is kind of bulky and ugly. It is based on the HTC Dream handset which is going to face fierce competition this Christmas from various other phones due to be released including the Nokia N96 and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. And of course you will have a hard time prizing the Blackberry phone away from any businessman.

In my opinion Google are trying to attack a market which is already completely over populated. Apple came along at the right time and offered the consumer something completely different, something that no one else could imitate.

So what do you get? Well, fundamentally the Google phone is simply software that is run on this HTC Dream handset. The software that Google will run is called, ‘Google Android’. The software will run services such as Gmail, Google Docs, Google Maps and likely to feature Google’s new browser, Chrome. Am I being crazy or am I right in thinking that you can access Google Docs, Maps and Gmail through an iphone? One of the most unique things about this phone is that it has an individual GPS tracking chip inside which would make GPS SAT NAV far more accurate. Additionally, the Google phone is to offer other random add-ons such as weather forecasts, travel updates and restaurant recommendations.

“We want to create a whole new mobile experience for users who want the same applications on the phone as they use on the internet,” said Eric Schmidt, Google’s chief executive. This quote itself is kind of an understatement. Aren’t all phones an example of what you can do on the internet? Have these people even used an iphone?? You can pretty much do exactly the same as you can on the internet.

Don’t get me wrong I think Google is great, but just as a search engine! The mobile phone industry is already full to the brim with phones that offer the same or ever so slightly different applications on the actual device. Google are coming out to play ball when all the other companies have hit the showers!

(remember this is only my opinion and not factual)

Nokia has done it again and they will I think go on doing this again and again. They have improved their N series mobile phone one after another and now the successor of N95, Nokia N96 launched with much pomp and show in Brussels in 2008. This phone has some features which if if told at first seems unbelievable. Even I too didn’t believe when somebody told me that the phone has an internal capacity of 16GB, till I saw the phone and the specifications of the phone in their official website.

Nokia N96 is the all new multimedia computer phone which has been very aptly optimized for TV and videos. The 2.8” large screen of the never lets you bring the phone close to your nose to see the videos clearly and the screen can support high quality videos and you would feel as if you are watching DVD and that too in wide range of formats. The have manufactured Nokia N96 is such a way that it will give no space for anybody to complain. The phone is the ultimate gadget of today and since is from Nokia you can imagine the competition it will give to other phones. The Nokia N96 can now be crowned the king of all phones.

Nokia N96 has 16 GB internal memory and I don’t know what I would save in this phone if I have this much space. In 16GB you can store around 10-12 movies. Now just imagine the number of songs, music, games, and other things that you can store in your phone. The phone supports all video formats including MPEG-4, Flash video and Windows Media Videos. The connectivity with USB 2.0 makes your transfer of files faster than before and the HSDPA or WLAN is an added feature.

Nokia phones try to change people live and now they have again made history with these phone. The phone with powerful internet connectivity, TV, videos and other multimedia option has been successful to prove its muscles more stronger than other phones in the market. Nokia N96 is a complete phone compatible for all situations- entertainment, office work, photography and others. Old on take your breathe! I haven’t yet told camera, its 5 megapixel camera with 20X zoom, Carl Zeiss optics make this phone a supreme commander of photography.

Mobile phones are used more and more all over the world.  Less than a decade ago, mobile phones were literally featureless and were basically used to make phone calls. Nowadays, mobile phones are much more sophisticated, advanced and act more like a computer than a phone. Modern mobile phones can do much more than just phone calls. They can take high-quality pictures and videos with their built-in camera, record and play audio, browse the internet, send and receive emails, act as a calendar, used as a GPS navigator, communicate and exchange data with other phones and even with a computer.

It’s crystal clear; mobile phones have evolved to the status of mini computers. More and more people are using their mobile phone as a phone, a camera, a calendar, an address book, an email client and as an internet communication center.  This is causing the modern mobile phone users store more and more important data on the phone.

Mobile phones are considered to be very reliable, they function over long periods of time with no faults, and they don’t seem to wear out at all. Not even after long months of continuous use.

But as reliable mobile phones are, they are cannot be 100% protected against hardware crash, forgetfulness or theft. If your mobile phone is lost, crashed, broken or malfunction.  You might face losing all your important data including your contacts, calendar, photos, videos, SMS massages and emails.

It is very important to backup the content of the modern mobile phones. Just as it is important to back up important files and data we keep on our computers. Most of us have experienced losing important file or data at least once. We all know how stressing is that very moment in which we realize the data is actually lost and how careless we were by not ensuring we have a backup of the lost data.

We all know that in the next moment, we realize that most of the data cannot be restored but the part which might be restorable will take too long to restore, if at all.

Backing up the content of the mobile phone is crucial for anyone who uses the mobile phone to store important data of all types such as contacts, calendar, photos, videos, SMS messages and emails.

Backing up the content of the mobile phone is not difficult, complicated or expensive and does not take a long time. Mobile phones can be backed up to a computer using a data cable, Infra red, Bluetooth technology or over the internet using specific applications.

Backing up the content of the mobile phone using a cable, Bluetooth or infrared requires both of the devices to be near each other while backing up over the internet can be done from anywhere and requires an internet connection only.

Backing up the content of the mobile phone is very important which is simple to perform. So there’s no real reason to postpone backing up the mobile phone to a later time and regret it afterwards. Back up the content of your mobile phone today.
